My News · Register · By Nqobile DludlaSeptember 1, 20259:34 AM UTCUpdated September 1, 2025 · JOHANNESBURG, Sept 1 (Reuters) - South Africa's Blue Label (BLUJ.J), opens new tab said on Monday that it plans a group restructuring to facilitate the unbundling and potential listing of mobile operator Cell C.The potential listing will also give Cell C, the fourth largest mobile operator in South Africa, access to capital markets on an independent basis and allow investors to value the telecoms business independently of Blue Label's core prepaid distribution model.Under Chief Executive Jorge Mendes, the once struggling Cell C has undergone two recapitalisations and a turnaround which includes selling all its towers and roaming on the networks of bigger rivals MTN (MTNJ.J), opens new tab and Vodacom (VODJ.J), opens new tab.Blue Label said the proposed pre-listing restructuring includes the conversion of various claims totalling 3.7 billion rand ($210.67 million) held by The Prepaid Company (TPC), a subsidiary of Blue Label, against Cell C into Cell C equity shares.

At IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Volkswagen and PowerCo have unveiled the production version of their new prismatic “Unified Cell”. It will first be used in the “Electric Urban Car Family” from Volkswagen, ŠKODA, and CUPRA. According to PowerCo, the cell achieves an energy density of around 660 watt-hours per liter, an increase of about ten percent compared to previous batteries.Production will begin at the Salzgitter gigafactory at the end of 2025, with production also planned for later in Valencia, Spain, and St. Thomas, Canada. Volkswagen emphasizes that the new cell significantly reduces costs. The standard cell is expected to account for up to 80 percent of the Groupʼs electric vehicles in the future.At the same time, Volkswagen is testing the solid-state battery. At IAA Mobility 2025, the Group presented an electric motorcycle based on a Ducati V21L, developed in collaboration with Audi and PowerCo. The solid-state cells are supplied by partner company QuantumScape.The newly developed system relies on cell-to-pack technology, eliminating the need for battery modules.
